Education

Mahathir first attended a Malay vernacular school before continuing his education at the Sultan Abdul Hamid College in Alor Star, both in Alor Setar. He was active in debates in school. He passed his Senior Cambridge with flying colours in 1945. Then, in 1947 he had been offered a scholarship, therefore, Mahathir attended the King Edward VII Medical College in Singapore, where he edited a medical student magazine called The Cauldron; he also contributed to the Straits Times newspaper anonymously under the nickname "Che Det".

While he was in the college, DR M was active in Rugby and very concern about the other students’ welfare. Thus, he obtained his medical degree (MBBS) in 1962. He showed a very outstanding leadership at his college years by becoming the President of the Muslim Society in the college.
